A friend of mine Gary and myself left Sunset at day brake. With all the reports from the southern canyon we figured we run down there to see what the fuss was about.
Came out of the inlet and headed south east. We had three and four foot swells hitting us straight on and with 27' boat it wasn't to comfortable if you know what I mean. So I jumped in the trough heading towards the Baltimore when I saw a flat spot id shoot back toward the south, and so on and so on. We arrived to the canyons about 15 miles north of the Washington. The first line out I put in the wash until I got the second rod rigged. I wasn't finished rigging the number two rod when the 50 started screaming. Gary put the belt on me and I went to work. I would of bet it was a blue fin until this huge Mako came airing out of the water. He bit threw my leader on the second jump and he was gone. There was a boat beside us that looked like a parker ,I'm not too sure, but these guys had to get a kick out that Mako. He breeched probably 50 yards off there boat twice.

I finally got the eight rod spread out and trolled the edge south going from about 500 ft of water on the inside and back out to about 3000 ft and so on. To make a long story short it was pure mayhem all the way down the edge.
We had doubles we had triples all eight rods went down once. Now there's only two of us and we had a heck of mess after that, so we went to three rods the rest of the day. We finished up killing a nice fat 50 pound blue fin and realest over twenty. We limited out on the yellow fin from 25 to 45 lbs pounds and realest five or six shorts.

I never found a defined break the water temperature varied from 66 to 70%. The bait of the day was anything you had it didn’t matter. The bird teasers did drive them crazy. the best part of the day was the Mako and when Gary started screaming in a stutter and pointing behind me, rods started screaming before I got turned around and these blue fin where joined with them two-toned dolphins and where darting from all sides attacking the spread the 5 fifty's 2 30s and my 80 started screaming, Ill never forget that.

All the tuna where packed full of squid and these little fish about the size of my pinky nail with big eyes, kind of looked like butter fish but I'm sure. There where over a dozen squid in my fish boxes they spit up around six inches long.

Over all this was our best day off shore we had in over three years. If any of you haven't been out yet you better call in sick and get out there NOW!!!!!!!!!!! This is what its all about and nothing good last forever.
Lets hope these fish stick around. I'm fishing all weekend, weather permitting. be safe I saw a lots of wood floating off shore looks like brand new 4x4s and plywood. I want to say thanks to Brandon for a great site and all of you that reported these fish with in reach of our shore.
