Does anyone have an answer as to why the upper Potomac is so stained this summer? I haven't been out this week, but the river near River Bend has been very stained for the last couple of weeks. A one foot visability makes it really difficult to wade!
Thanks, Steve

I think the hot weather, record hot water (July 22 2011 was highest water temp EVER recorded above tidewater on the free flowing Potomac at Little Falls, around 93 F) and low flow has resulted in algal blooms. The hot water was above the lethal temp for walleye, which is very bad news for Potomac walleye fishermen.

The lower Potomac has had an algae bloom that makes the water lime green and has killed a lot of the grass due to diminished light. Is there any grass growing in the upper Potomac?
