Friend snagged his anchor close to Thomas point lighthouse. He tried to pull it loose but could not. It was choppy and waves / current pushed the boat close to the rocks so they had to cut the anchor rode before they could place a marker jug on it.

Since there was about 160 feet of rode out - figured it would be easy to find with a grapple hook. Tried 5-6 times but no luck. Plan B - drag grapple where he thought anchor was hung. Second drift - grapple caught so over I went. Only 12 feet deep but viz. was about a foot. Good enough to see the glint of a SS swivel shackle on his anchor. Talk about good luck - grapple had hooked his anchor. I pulled the rode in and coiled it as best I could - then freed both anchors and sent them up.

He had snagged an old piece of pipe - about 3 inch diameter. Wish all anchor recovery were this simple.

Had one two weeks ago - guy lost a plow anchor in 30 feet of water - shackle pin backed out. Anchor fell from pulpit but he had good GPS numbers.

Bottom is sand so I pushed a metal stake and did a circle search with wreck reel. Viz. was about 2 feet so I could see my compass clearly.
Sometimes in no viz. - instead of E , W , S or N - I see a T or K.

Being able to see let me release line when back 360*. Had out about 70 feet of line before I found the plow - just sitting there on the bottom.

Best ones are snagged - often find other anchors.
