How about some big flathead pics to get folks excited? We hardly ever see any flatheads (except Doodoo) on the board.

Getting bait at watkins is tough, but you can do it if you have the time. I usually find a stream or private pond or something and catch my bait before i go.

I have never been to Watkins Landing. I guess it will be kinda cool to try something new. I am planning to get up there one evening and at least ride around to see what it is like.
Are there any blue cats up there?
Are there any channel cats?
I know people ski and tube up there so there is plenty of water.
How far down river to the dam is it?
How far can you go up river?
I will catch bait the night before.

You can only go about 5 minutes upriver unless you have a jet, or a small boat and really watch it.
The shad make it up the ladder but I've never heard of anyone netting them legally. We took bluegills last time or two I went and will be my gameplan when i go again.

The boat traffic out of there during the day is going to be horrible. water skiers and more water skiers. If you have a jet you will be at a huge advantage b/c you can go upriver and get away from all of them.

Do you think the waterskiers will be bad on May 21. That is kinda early.

not really. a lot of wakeboarders are already using Watkins now. After Easter is when you start seeing more of them. Old Dominion Small Boat Club(I think that is the name) is just below the landing

Thats just something we will all have to deal with. The fish hear boats all the time I dont think they care. we caught our biggest fish last time just in front of the ramp. I think only one person has a jet and we have no plans of going up. The bigger fish are down and thats where we will be.

I'm planning on fishing it but I''ll be way up. Most of the bigger fish are in the Dutch Gap Area anyway......nothing big goes upriver.

The HUGE Flathead was caught on May 14th 1998 and topped the scales at 123lbs!!!!. Now heres the go-getter.....Ken caught this thing on a Zebco 33 reel, spooled with 12lb test line!?! Now just try to imagine that fight in the back of your mind!
