I went out to Lake Prince after Weather Forecasters scared me into believing that we were going to get SEVERE Thunderstorms. So by 10:00am I was out and about. Lots of pollen and pine sperm on the water, depending on which way the wind is blowing. I was able to get some good fishing in on the fingers at the Western Branch end past the last bridge. Pulled in one 4 lb bass and a few good size bream. Caught the bass on a Carolina rig with a dark blue and black Culprit and much to my surprise caught a few bream on broken back gold and black Rapala. Bass are still on bed and frustrated a few anglers but they should be pulling off real soon. The water was brown and very clear and water is still high but coming down since my last visit two weeks earlier.

Thanks for the Lake Report. We need a few more of these over here. I fished Speights Run a few times a few weeks ago. Lots of crappie, small bass, pike, yellow perch and a few shellcrackers. Nothing special though. There are some nice bream in Prince. Thanks Again

I love fishing the Suffolk lakes. Prince, Western Branch, Meade freshwater fishing doesn't get a whole lot better than it does in those lakes. In my opinion our Commonwealth is one of the top states in the country for outdoorsman. The freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing, hunting.....we have some of the best right here. I have harvested myself, and seen many very nice deer harvested in VA. Several Boone and Crockettt book bucks. The fishing doesn't get much better. Very few species of gamefish that cannot be caught in VA. I love this state.

Adam where do you get a permit to fish lake pince and Wesrern Branch now?

You can get forms to buy annual permit at Suffolk Visitors Center in downtown. I think daily permits can be purchased at Norfolk City Hall...but not 100% sure. I usually buy the annual permit, fish the Norfolk supply lakes 10 times in a year and it's more than paid for itself.

Here is a link to annual permit form. Have to have adobe acrobat reader to view.http://www.norfolk.gov/Utilities/resources/boatpermit.PDF

Hope this helps.
