I was wondering does anyone have any magic tricks to get display back on lowrance global map 3200,Lowrance recommened me replacing it with the HDS-5m.I have a lowrance X510c finder.Do you think its worth the effort to link these two units,if so would the Nema 2000 hookup be the way to go.

Would appreciate any opions

I believe that both units are nmea 0183, not 2000,but if you already have a problem with the 3200 why would you want to do a networking set up with it. Seems like you'd just be waiting for the other shoe to drop !
The HDS will also enhance your sonar experience quite a bit. You could keep the X510 as a back up or use it when you are running on the HDS's plotter, thus two full size screens and not a split 5" screen like you would have if you did away with the 510.
You might want to ask Lowrance if you could use the 510 to network to you HDS and then run the 510 with the plotter info, then you can use the HDS 2D while you are running,it will perform much better at speed than the 510.
Best of luck.

I understand what you are working with. The X510c and 3200 are able to be tied together via NMEA2000. The connectors are likely the blue non-current version. These older units used pigtail networking rather than the modern t-connector/backbone structure for NMEA 2000.

Your comment mentions 'getting the display back', so I assume you don't have anything displayed on the screen, but it is powering up. I would first recommend checking your backlight and make sure it is turned up. You can do this by pressing the Power/Light button a few times once the unit has powered up fully.

If you would like to save a few bucks you can try and find a used Lowrance 330, 335, 3000, 3200, etc. They are all pretty much the same with the only difference being slightly higher resolution on the newer/premium versions. They will all perform the same if you update the software (for free) from Lowrance's website.

Personally, I just bought a boat with an older LMS-335 and its great. I upgraded the software, and networked it to my garmin chartplotter. Now I have an excellent fishfinder and a great backup GPS.

Good Luck!
