A few that I Pm to already know this, but thought I would post this story for all.....
Purchased HDS-8 with Side scan(lss-1) this spring.
Took it out twice and was really starting to get it dialed in- then just before my third trip----Wham, won't start-up.!
Would get the splash Screen and it couldn't go beyond, bummer, bad Hard Drive likely!
So Navco said send it back, five days from the time they received it and I had a new one on it's way back!
My total turn around was less than Ten days(two of those on a week-end), but it seemed like an eternity !
Actually they didn't have my unit in Stock and it was back-ordered till Oct!!!
They sent me a unit with their upgraded mapping(Insight),mine only had the enhanced basemap. So for my aggravation I got an upgrade that was worth a few hundred bucks.Thruth be told, I like my navionics Platinum+ better, but their gesture was still appreciated.
So for all the Lowrance haters out there, Lowrance stood behind their product 1000%. I have always had good experiences with their support, but had never required a unit repair or replacement, just typical tech help ,etc.
So fifteen years or so and still singing the praises of Lowrance!
Will be on the briney with it again tomorrow- can't wait !

Update..
Had my new,new unit out yesterday !
Wow, its much better than the original one. Must have had some issues with it even before it went bad !
Found a wreck, looked at some neat bottom structure and recorded some fish on a log also.
Thanks again to Lowrance-- very happy !

Good to hear Wen.What do you like about navionics Platinum better than the (Insight)?

Post screen shot of the wreck you found. Are you finding fish on them?

Rodger--sorry for the delay.
I can't set safety contours on the Insight charting. For me, not a safety issue,I use it to identify the drops and edges with the color change-If I set for 16' then anything deeper than 16' will show in white and the other contours in various shades of blue.I also use the 32 or33' setting for deeper drops and edges.I can glance down when I am searching edges and very quickly see where I want to be, very convenient.
The other thing I like is the Satelite aerial overlay for land mass- again,it's just a quick at a glance thing, but very easy to see the land masses. The imbedded aerial pictures are nice, but not really something a fisherman needs.
I've tried using the insight, but for me it's navionics, have had their stuff for over ten years so the new platinum plus is really just an enhancement.
I do know that the Navionics has a faster screen re-draw time,it's one of the features that they market , I think they call it "turbo view".
I called Lowrance and there is no end around on changing their presentation of the contour lines, maybe they will do an upgrade in the future.Hope they're listening !

Wen
Ps, old wreck,no real photo op for screen shot, just a hump on the bottom.Must be pretty old and disintegrated. It was a marked wreck, just something I went looking for.Did see some other interesting bottom debris in the area, next time I'm there I'll save a few shots.
