On May 27th, it was a friday evening, my neighbor wanted me to go fishing with his family out on near the mouth of the chick for some blue cats. I told him that the spawn was at it's peak and he would be better off chasing some rockfish. I recommended a place for him to go rockfishing. I chose not to go. Actually I was going to the lake bass fishing until I saw where one of the concrete trucks cleaned out in the quarry. There was a load of wet concrete that was just dumped out. I got my dad to get the loader and haul some to my house while I set some forms for a sidewalk. The concrete was starting to set up on me so I was working hastily. My neighbors pulled up to my house and were hollering for me. I told them I was busy. (I was racing against the clock) I figured they caught a rockfish and wanted to show it to me.
Yesterday I spoke to my neighbor and he told me his son, who is 11, caught a 38 lb Blue cat. He said he took a picture of the boy holding it, he could harldy lift it. The kid had cancer a couple of years ago and has recovered. It was a blessing for him to catch a fish like that during the peak of the spawn in less than an hour of fishing. Needless to say it is his largest catfish to date.
