Well I did not take my boat down but rather fished from the piers on the bayside below the rt# 50 bridge. All I caught was a 13" croaker (with open sores on it's tail) and two 4" sea bass. A lot of 6" to 8" blues were being caught. I enjoyed just wetting a line!

Thanks for the report--saved me a trip this week. I hope the Rock start turning on as the water cools. Have you ever fished the 50 bridge pilings from your boat? Thinking about doing it and could use a few pointers for the Rock.

Tog bite is on fire. I was just down for a few days. We didn't get any hammers, but made up with it in numbers.

Gary, that is what I wanted to do last time in OC but couldn't find any spot anywhere. 8 or 10 years ago I was told by locals that the spot and most all types of bait fish don't really come into the backwater around the docks south of the #50 bridge like they used too. They claim with Sunset marina and the likes over in west OC that is where the spot go to eat the scraps thrown in the water when they clean their fish over there. Really not much activity at Talbot St. and the White Marlin docks anymore so it may be true. Anyway, are there any spot still around in the backwater? Thanks, Bob

Hey Bob,
Still the rock have not turned on yet. We are finally catching a few but the mad rush has not yet started. Gary, the spot have been unusually scarce this year. Usually I have a pen full of spot by now and it holds hundreds, but this year I only have a few spot and a lot of pinfish. Not really sure why but this year has been the worst that I can remember for spot. I don't think this is going to be a problem because the ocean is full of bunker this year, again I really don't remember seeing this much bait running the coast which is the opposite of the spot situation.

I have had my best luck with October spot around the Assateague bridge drifting bloodworms. This year has not been good for spot anywhere. The best places were the Choptank...........Gary

The croaker was probably chucked back by a Blue fisherman that discarded it after a Blue chewed on it's tail.Atleast you caught something
