HIT N RUN

Finally found the time to get back out on the blue. Between Irene flooding in the Outer banks & then Lee flooding my shop & basement plus all the new work spawned from all the people up north who also had damage, we have been swamped. It killed me to be missing this fall Tuna bite since the storm. We had planned to take a shot or two this weekend. The weather man said it was gonna be a bit crappy but plenty doable with a solid crew. Heavy rain most of the day but not as much wind as was predicted ended up being a fair trade off.
OK details, Fished the 610-635 100-250 fathoms 82.6 degree clean blend with about a knt of tide. No-stop action from start till finish with all 6 packs of baits chomped up not incl rubber which also produced equally well. The Yellowfin were not as thick as what they had been on previous days but there were still a few here and there mixed in. We managed boxing 8 plus missed a handful that didn't come or stay tight. On the 630 we found a spot where we kept getting cut off by Wahoo but finally did get one nice medium Hoo in the box. The main attraction was all the Blackfin you could possibly want up close & personal tearing away at your teasers, flats & shorts. Troll then jig on the marks. Every position, every rig whams. Lots of fun & a nice class fish. Insane #s
Bert is down for his annual OBX vacation this week. Tomorrow we will be spending the day canning Tuna. We both were just about out. The trick is to clean & can it a soon/fresh as possible.
Anyways, get out there if you want Tuna!!! Bite is wide open. I might try to squeeze in one more trip early next week if crew & weather line up. If not than next weekend.
