Get the monofilament not the nylon. 50 feet is plenty.

Ditto on what virtual fishing guide Dayton said...if you are going to get one, I urge that you just get a 50 or 75 footer at the most. I've got a 50 footer and I get my 8-10 shad within 5 minutes almost everytime. I normally just hold one end of it in my hand instead of leaving it all in the water so I can feel the shad going in it. That way I know if too many are going in it. I still use the cast net about 50% of the time though b/c this summer it has been very easy to get them.
