Got my 8ft cast net snagged on something heavy this morning about 5am. After a little tug of war up comes a 4 pronged 30lb grappler style anchor with about 5-6ft of chain attached. It is made from 8 pieces of 1" re-bar cut in 1ft lengths and welded with eyes to attach rope and chain. It weighs 30lbs by my Shimano 100lb scale. If anyone recognizes it I'll be glad to return it to the owner. Much to heavy for me. I caught 4 fish in this order, 10lb, 9, 7, and 6lb. Water temps were at 68 degrees all around Deep Bottom from the 295 bridge through the cut and back up to the ramp. It was a beautiful morning with strong tides. Water was still stained somewhat. Thanks again to Striper Joe for allowing me to leave my boat parked at his house while I went to my grandmother's 91'st B-day party in Savannah, GA over the weekend. I'll be back down next weekend for a wedding so I can bring the anchor back then. If anyone knows who lost it let me know. Later for now---jonnycat

jonnycat - just wish i coulda gone with you. i was at my dad's and we fished one of the other rivers and had some great pull downs, lots of bait, drag peeling off, beautiful weather, didn't i mention 0 fish. oh well it was time well spent and the tide ran so hard from the rains, i swear it made it tough for our 10's to hold bottom. Plus we have a nemis on "my " river called CRABS, not like Dayton's these have claws and they tear the bait apart. Glad I could help, hey maybe fish the tourney Sunday with us . it is JRCC's last tourney and it's only $50 per boat. All rednecks are welcome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Striperjoe[excited]

I may be able to fish the tourny but I'm unsure at this time. What is the goal of this tourny, target or big fish? Cool nights this week should take the water temps on down a bit more. I will be on the water but I don't know my plans quite yet. Thanks again for the parking spot Joe. Later for now---jonnycat

I can't hardly pull the 8ft Betts fast sinking net in as it is, but with an extra 30lbs it was a chore. I kind of thought someone would have claimed it or know who owns it by now. Personally, I thought it was a big sunken piece of wood or the like. Its yours for the taking if you want it. I have a funeral at 11am Sat and a wedding at 2pm to attend up 64 in Gum Spring. Shortly after the second, I'll be headed for Deep Bottom to launch for the night. Don't yet know whether I'll fish the JRCC tourny or not. I'll be at the launch regardless and I'll have the anchor with me. It all depends on the weather for Sunday. Dayton, I don't have any of the sausage right now but the time is near. My dad will be making it up any day now. Later for now---jonnycat

JonnyCat, since you will be out there Saturday night and Sunday morning, there are a few of us that could use some fresh bait. That would allow us to sleep a bit later also. But please make it fresh bait. I prefer it to be caught after 6am on Sunday morning!
thanks so much,
Dayton[wink]

nice catch jonnycat!
i pulled a big freakin log out of there the other day .. i thought for sure i wasn't getting my net back but it eventually broke free
it was like 8ft long, waterlogged, and getting it up onto the boat was tough as all get out

I hardly ever take more than 6-8 shad so as not waste them. Lately, I've not had more than 4 on any trip. I'll be bringing white perch with me so I at least have enough to fish with. The forecast here in Annapolis calls for showers starting Friday and continuing on/off thru Tuesday. I'll be there for sure but the rain is hard on arthiritis(sp) in the old hip, hands, elbows, knees, etc. Almost 42yrs old and close to wore out[sad]. Got a pinched nerve on the left side and its been pretty painful lately. 4 operations from car/truck accidents and things aren't the same anymore. Only upside to this is more time to fish when I can stand it. Whether in the boat or the truck I'll make the launch. Any clue on how many boats yet? Later for now---jonnycat

Never know how many boats until takeoff. We have fished with 5 (flooded upper James) and we have fished with 20 boats. Depends on the weather.
Hope to see ya, one way or the other.

Just talked w/ my dad about the sausage. He is having the ulogy as well as the wedding vows. He will not have time between now & then to prepare sausage. Maybe when the Dec tourny is held I'll have hot sausage egg & cheese on Pillsbury biscuits for sale at the launch[grin]. See y'all Sunday at the launch---jonnycat
