I'm going Tog fishing in OC, MD this weekend and need some advice on tackle. Can anyone recommend rigs, lb test to use?
I've got a bunch of good spots I want to try including: Rt.50 bridge, 3rd St bulkhead, Oceanic Pier, Indian River Inlet.
Green crabs seem to be the bait of choice. Any thoughts?
Also, should you cast in the rocks or at the base of the rocks or structure?
Cheers

Use any spiderwire type line. I use 50 lb. When they bite you need to get them up fast or they will go into the rocks or in a crevis and you will loose them. Your leader doesn't need to be as strong 20-30#. Green crab or sand fleas work best.

Your leader doesn't need to be as strong 20-30...Very good suggestion...I use 30lb cuz I want something to give cuz if u aint losing stuff u aint tog fishin. Definitely a spectra product on your mainline. Simple rig w/a dropper loop for your hook and a surgeons loop for your weight...make a least 15 up/person b4 u hit the water...take plenty of hooks and weights. Can't beat greenies 4 bait...ez to deal with.

Thanks Guys. No luck with Tog this weekend. It was a really slow weekend down in OC and Indian River. Tog were biting in Indian River big time around the rocks on Saturday morning, but I was fishing down at the 3rd st bulkhead that morning. Didn't hear about it until I got up there. Green Crabs seem to be pretty easy to get, but sand fleas are another issue.
One thing I tried this trip was using rubber bands to tie the weights to the rig. It worked well fishing the rocks. Never lost a rig, but lost plenty of weights.
Just out of curiosity, what size line do you use for your tog rigs?

I just buy some el cheapo 30lb mono from Walmart. I make up 20 or so rigs before I head out. I always use braid to a coastlock for quick re-rigging if you get snagged.

Tore them up at 2nd-4th street last week! Even though the season is closed, the fish are still there I am sure. Go catch em! But release em!
