Fished from 8:30 until 3. Tried IOW then on over to Fewick with no birds and no good marks on the finder. Caught several sand sharks and an 18" flounder jigging. Several boats were trolling and did not see any catching.
Then took a heading to the 2nd lump. On the way there saw one lone boat out from us trolling, and saw a few birds working. When we got there there were quite a few birds over a really nice grade of rockfish. The fish and the boat were moving really fast and it was hard to stay on them. The wind and waves were a bit more than called for. The fish seemed to stay near an edge that went from 65 to 45'. We had about 3 hours of action until everthing came to a halt, tide slacked I guess. Anyway, we caught quite a few really fat looking rock from 28 to 33". Caught 2 33"ers on a flyrod up top. Lots of fight in them. No blues in the mix. Really wanted a few for the smoker. Had to take the wire off my leader to get hit. The rock were eating small stuff and on the picky side. We caught them on metal jigs also but not as fast as I have in the past in a school like this. It was great to watch a wall of breaking rock right on the surface headed toward the boat. You only had a minute or two to connect and then they would move past. Had 3-4 chasing my popper at a time. The key to a take was a small popper and no wire. Had alot of looks but no takes with the wire. Slow ride back straight into the wind with tight 3-4"ers.
