I went to Ancarrows landing yesterday to see how bad the mud was and they are dredging the boat landing. I talked with the trackhoe operator and he said that where the water was 1 foot it is now 7ft. The had removed 15 dumptruck loads by mid day with more to come. He also said that the landing area had a concrete bottom 10ft out past the dock.
On the fishing side I talked with the Creel checker that was there and he said a few shad had been caught. It looks like in the next couple of weeks it will be on in the James.

Ann Carrows is the first boat landing below the fall line in Richmond. It is on the south side of the river. Take I-95 to the Maury Street exit. At the light, take a right, go to the end of the road. You are there. Right beside the Richmond Waste Water Treatment plant.
When the shad/herring/white perch get up there. You can anchor and fish for the small fish, rehook them (cut or uncut) and pitch them out the other side for catfish and stripers.
It is going to be fun.

Was not the case today. We fished for shad a little while today and never saw anyone catch anything. There were a lot less people than yesterday too.

Just a heads up, the yellow perch are in full swing in the Mattaponi. I caught about 30 yellow & white perch today from 8-noon...the yellow perch had some size to them.

just nightcrawlers on a bottom rig.
Fished for them a few weeks ago with silver buddies and couldn't buy a hit.
Most people on the river were fishing with minnows today.

Nice work eKim! Those are quality perch. Nightcrawlers. Cool. Were you fishing a regular bottom rig?
Thanks for the report.

Yep, just a regular old bottom rig.
Saw you at the catfish weigh-in Saturday with my father, we were the two guys standing on the dock as you were pulling in for the weigh-in.
I told him yesterday we shoulda gone to the Mattaponi as we got skunked on the James Saturday :)

You sure he caught American Shad? They are bigger and rarer than a hickory shad.
