Looking for an inexpensive used canoe. Preferably 12' with two seats. Any material but aluminum will do.

I have an aluminum one under my porch, that should be in excellent condition, but haven't used it in years. I will check the brand and size and let you know.

Brian,
If you are looking to carry two, don't you think you want to go up in length?
No dog in the fight, but I have spent my share of time in a canoe and would not want anything less than 16 if I were carrying two.
My 2 cents,

Thanks for the replies. I'll mostly be using it myself so I want to make sure I can paddle and load it alone.
Do you think there would be a big difference in paddling a 16' versus a 12' or 14'?
Also I'm a little concerned that 16' would be too much to strap onto the roof of my Jeep Cherokee and get on the highway.

Brain,
It sounds like you need either fiberglass or a Gruman Super Lite Aluminum.
My canoe is about 17' long & heavy gauge aluminum. It is definitely too heavy for one person to load on & off the roof of a Jeep, unless you are like Arnold or the Hulk. However, it would be okay for loading into the back of a pick up truck.
Sorry,

Brian,
I move mine easy enough.
It is a mohawk Nova 16, built like an Oldtown Camper style, I think. You will need to check this.
I can lift it and load it fairly easy.
You should read some of the online resources.
I think your better question is what style do you want, then what size.
Look at bottom shapes, some flat with keels, some rounded with smooth centerline.
Anything close to 60# and you should be able to lift it OK

we use an older model of the same thing. it's made of a plastic material, very light and very durble. we can get it into spots no other boats can get to. they are very nice.

Ive got a 16' fiberglass that I carry on the roof of my Jeep Wrangler so you will have plenty of room on a Cherokee. Rope the front and back to the bumpers, and tie the sides to your roof rack.
