I went to Tuckahoe yesterday afternoon and fished till dusk. It appeared to be low tide. I was using a grass shrimp fly and also tried various shad flies. didnt get as much as a nibble, yet folks using nightcrawlers caught a few, most of which were very small. Am I doing something wrong? I was casting upstream and letting it drift down with a slow retrieve, getting snagged alot on the bottom.

Except for the low tide, sounds like you're getting the flies where they need to be. Depending on where you were on the Tuckahoe, it does get real shallow in the upper end at low tide, so the fish just may not have been there. Keep trying, if & when the bigger WP show, you'll do OK.
I fished at Transquaking today, and only caught a few 5-6" perch & crappies, and 5" bass. They where caught on spinning tackle. I didn't even take my fly rod. The way the wind was blowing spinning gear was the right choice. I also landed one shad!
The water is still a little cool, but should be better over the next couple of weeks.
