Fletchers, 4-18-05. Arrived around 6:00am and elected to fish from shore about 1/2 mile upstream of Fletchers on a favorite rocky point of mine. I caught a bunch of hickories, maybe 50, but 90% were small males averaging only 13"-15". There were a few nicer ones mixed in but I caught no egg laden females. I guess all those big row hickories I got into last Thursday must have finished spawning and left... or moved to somewhere else. No Americans either and no herring seen. Even cormorant activity were I was appeared to be way off from previous trips. Water vis is a pleasant 3' at least. As I was reeling in each of those little males I kept watching for signs of stripers in pursuit, but saw none. With the water as clear as it was, if stripers were there in any numbers they would have been all over those hooked bite-sized hicks. Around 9:30 I walked well downstream of Fletchers and caught a little better grade of hickories with maybe 4 females still with eggs. Based on other reports looks like a boat would have made a big difference at Fletchers today.
Around noon I stopped in CB and caught about a dozen hickories, all males, several of which were so small I thought at first that a few of them were herring..
Fishing pressure upstream from Fletchers, sun-up to 9:30, was a grand total of 3, me and 2 other guys. Downstream of Fletchers, 10:00 to noon, I was the only one fishing from shore.
