My wife took me to the Cheat River Lodge, WV, for my birthday (some months after the fact, but the fishing isn't great in December), and I caught a 10-inch brown, about 8 rainbows to 10 inches, and 4 or 5 brookies to 11 inches--that was my largest wild brookie ever--all on a 3-weight, and all but the brown on dries. Felt quite different after fishing for shad with a 7-weight but a nice change. There is so much beautiful water over there, it's hard to know where to start, and spring was just getting under way.

How did you like the lodge?
There is some very pretty water in that state, Must have been a hoot on that light rod.

Good to hear of your successful trip. There are definitly some good trout fishing opportunities in WVA, I just wish the better trout streams were just a little closer.

The lodge is pleasant and a good deal for the price, right on the river. They don't serve breakfast, however, and the so-called "company store" doesn't even carry breakfast-type foods, even though there is a fridge and a microwave in the room. The restaurant is very good; I'd go there again. That pool below the lodge is heavily stocked and really gets hammered!
If those streams were any closer to the DC-Baltimore metroplex, we wouldn't be able to find room on them!
