Length of Line to the Crab Trap

I'm getting ready to rig up 20 new traps and was wondering how long I should make the line from the trap to the float. I'm thinking 12 feet should be fine but wanted to get some opinions before I start cutting.

I know this thread is a year old, but I was doing a search on floats to find ways to tie the line to the PVC pipe. Did`nt find anything. Can everyone tell me your ideas on tying the line to the PVC pipe. Thanks.

Very easy!!!
Drill a hole in the pipe.
Push line into hole and out one end of pipe.
Tie knot in line.
Pull knot inside pipe.
