It took Beth to get me moving but everything now is just about ready to start. My 30 topless are ready, a little worried about the spring though, trotline is in the freezer baited, 4hp 4 stroke kicker mounted, need to mount steering rod from kicker to main. Installed dark blue flags on my trotline floats for quick I.D. Altered my dip net to reduce snoods from getting caught in the wire ( Thanks for advise Jerry ). I'm sure I'll be making additional modifications as the season gets going but thats the fun part of crabbing for me.

John,
You know you may not have to put a steering rod on your kicker. I used a 6hp kicker on my boat all of last year without one. I tightened up the steering tension on the kicker so it would not move by itself. I put the kicker straight and used the big motor for steering. Not a problem. In fact it made my standard teleflex steering just like NFB as there was no torque on the steering at all. You may want to take a trial trip out first. May save some money.

"Is Everyone Ready?"
I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe Thursday will be my first day.
The line is baited.
The boat is ready.
The van is gassed up.
Just gotta make lunch.[grin]
John,
Ditch the springs and make a snood with bungee cord to hold the necks. The crabs will steal the bait from under the springs. I haven't worked on my traps yet, but I intend to remove the springs.

Jerry, I have snoods ready to attach. I didn't feel good about springs, to weak. Even in my old two door traps I used snoods.Good luck on your first trip. I'll be watching or I should say waiting for good reports.

May 23rd or 24th in the Pax will be my first try. I bought 15 topless traps from Jerry's large purchase and decided to buy 15 more from kcrabpots. It will be my first with topless traps.

We've all waited for this season. Though winter hasn't been all that bad it's over and now it's time to get serious again. Speaking for myself I'll either try the Pax or back over to Indian River. I don't know much other than these two for ealier crabs.Best of luck to all, may your baskets be full.
