Took the wife and kids out this afternoon to get the trot line wet for the first time. Like usually Charlie Foxtrot followed me out. I ran south and the area I wanted to crab was just too rough. I tucked into a creek that I've never crabbed before just to avoid the wind. As soon as I got the line set the wind shifted and picked up. With the water clear, the sun high above us, and the wind bouncing the trotline, it's amazing we caught anything. We couldn't stay long because we had a little league game to go to so we called it quits after we had a dozen for dinner. A dozen nice crabs go a long way with ribeyes and corn on the cob.

Anyway, I think under the right conditions you could work hard for a bushell at the pax. I am going to give it another week or two.

Good report, CastnBlast. I was also thinking about getting my line wet on saturday and the Pax was one of the areas.

Thanks for the report. I guess it's time to get the gear ready and dig out my lucky crabbing shoes! Probably give 'em a try sometime Memorial day weeknd if this weather holds for a while. FJ

Tanks for the report....Yrs. ago at Benedict, crabbing was great, but after that oil spill down there a few yrs. back things have not been the same.

Maybe the crabs will rebound this year, have not been there in about 4yrs.

Was the crabbing any good last year?

Jay...I would have to rate last years crabbing at Benedict very good. It is probably one of the most pressured areas in the entire Chesapeake region and still was able to fill baskets for crabbers throughout the season. That stretch of the Pax would be just incredible if it wasn't pressured so much.

Jay is correct....The Pax isnt even worth wetting your boat, cast just got lucky. If I were you guys I would stay over on the eastern side or up north.......The few crabs that are in the river taste like heating oil and barley measure...[wink]

Ok... Don't get Culvert County on me now! I use to crab that river on the weekend's and fill my 4 basket's with jumbo's (only) by 12:00am.

The pax has some of the best crab's around,It's a shame that it has been overrun by Nimcompoop's and Nimrod's [sad]
