My friend Frank and his buddy went out in two separate boats.....30 open top traps each, ( total of 60 for clarity) on Monday.....4 hours later a total of seven crabs between the both of them. For the past 5 years I have gotten 3/4 to 1 bushel of crabs from Thompson Creek the week of Memorial Day. Looks like steak will be on the menu for this weekend. Frank has talked to several other local crabbers that live on the island---same results.

Water temp on the bottom - at the end of my pier (Shipping Creek) has DROPPED 10 degrees over the last three days. Going to need about a week of steady sunshine to get things even a little bit started.

I am sorry this is happening to everyone too.
Too much fresh water and cool days is going to make everything late for us this year.
The water is stained real bad too.
Oh the inhumanity of it all!

I know patience is a virtue, and warm weather will be here soon enough, but crab season is short enough as it is, and we've lost the whole month of May!!!
I'm bummed.

Think of how nice it will be when things do start. There's a hwole month of crabs that haven't been caught yet. June and September/Oct. are always my best months. With a non-existent May, I can't wait for June to start, I'll be catching tripples in my traps. You trotliners won't be able to dip fast enough, but it'll be fun trying. Might even break mine back out.

last year I started crabbing in E.B. two weeks before memorial day and thru out the season and had a bu. every time, water is much colder this year so we need some warm temps.

I feel the same way John Pearce does. Warmer will be better for us.
Kinda goes without saying on this board!
