Couldn't stand not crabbing so I headed out to my spots near Gibson Island today.
Ran 25 traps, topless, 4 door and 2 door, from 6am to 11am and could manage only 8 crabs, 6 of which were keepers. I ran the water from 3 ft. deep to 15 ft. deep, off the channels and on the shoals, on the grass and just off. i moved my lines at least 5 times. The crabs I did catch were all over the place, one deep, one shallow, near grass beds, on the mud flats. They just aren't buncnhed up and running in any numbers yet. The tide never got running from the high tide as the wind pushed water all over.

The crabs won today so I let the keepers go for someone else to catch in a week or so. The water felt quite warm though I don't have a temperature monitor.

I'll be back in a week or two and we'll see who wins the day then.

Adios

I always thought afternoon crabbing was better this time of the year. Just as the same in the fall. Let the sun hit the water all morning and get it warming up. I wonder how that would have worked out?
