Ran my 20 topless traps for the first time in a creek near Benedict this afternoon. All in at 5:30 and crabbed till about 6:30. Caught a little over a dozen and then tried for some perch. Crabbed another hour towards slack tide, but things really slowed down. Ended up bringing home about two dozen crabs. No real big rusty ones, but plenty respectable ones and threw back all under 5 1/2". Crabbed in about 4 - 5 ft of water and I don't knoe the temp. Crabbed out of my 2-man bass boat with an electric motor, so screw those gas prices! [grin] At least I didn't go home empty handed.

Jerry,
I'm off Wednesday if you need a hand [wink].

I forgot to mention that many of traps had turkey necks from the two birds I got this year. Figured what better way to start out the season than with leftovers from the end of another.

Caught more crabs today, only these were many of the same crabs that were caught yesterday. Turns out that most escaped from an openning in an old basket. Now I'm kind of wishing I would have counted exactly how many I had yesterday. Guess I'll know in a few days whether I got them all! [grin]

I'm glad to hear that i'm not the only one that had the idea for the neck out of the bird I got this spring. I haven't used it yet, but i'll keep track of the trap it's in when I do and something tells me the crabs caught in that trap will taste even sweeter than normal. FJ

JP,
Benedict is on the Pax up river from Broome's Island by about 10 or so miles.

FJ,
You're right about the turkey necks. Quite a reward and congrats on your success aparently as well! Each neck is good for at least four or five traps.
