What Do You Do With Them All????

Hello All,
I am curious. It seems like there are a few folks on here who catch a bushel fairly regularly. What do you do with them all? It takes more than a couple people to eat that many and I can't imaging picking an extra 4 or 5 dozen for freezer meat after finishing up a feast. Not knocking it just wondering. Maybe you do something with it that I need to know about :) Good Luck everyone, go get 'em.

Got that right. A bushel around here lasts about 24 hrs. I steam them out back on the deck and people just show up.[grin] Anything that's left usually goes in the soup pot.[wink]

I rarely crab alone, that means out of a bushel I get 3 to 4 dozen. I usually do the pick and eat thing. I can not stand to just pick crabs for the meat so when I eat crabs I usually put the meat I am sure has no cartilage into a bowl to freeze for crab cakes or whatever.

A dozen or two to a family member of friend and your done.

They also work great for getting favors done. Need someone to help you move a couch? Call one of your friends as tell them to come over and pick up a dozen crabs and by the way....while you are here do you mind helping me move a couch. Works every time.

If you have crabs you will never be lacking for friends!

Yeah like they say on the coke commercial, a house full of crabs is a house full of friends. We usually have not too many left when were done, and thats with more than a bushel if we get lucky enough to get 2.

With the crabbing that I'll be doing this year.. Family and friends are already taking orders. I normally keep a few dozen for the wife and kids and then give to family. Yesterday went to mother in-laws and gave her a dozen and a half. So they never go to waste.

A bushel of crabs is no problem to knock out with a few friends, any left over are great for a evening snack.

Since the crabs I catch are fairly large, only 40-48 fit in a bushel. That means a dozen for me, a dozen for the misses and since I have three girls whichever one doesn't make it to the table in time is left out. [grin]

I have to say that that has never been a problem. When I bring home a bushel or even two, they are gone within three days.[grin]

You can call in alot of favors with a bushel of free crabs. Farmers who let hunt there land, unfortunately down to 2, get a bushel now and then, neighbors, family and don't forget pick'm and save'm for cakes and stuffed fish[grin]
