I'm heading a little north of the 301 (Harry Nice) bridge for some camping on 25th. This is a little farther south than I typically crab - any decent crabbing in the area? I go to the Naval Weapon Station in Dahlgren frequently an never see any boats in the area. Is there a reason for this or does the ordnance testing keep boats out?

The mouth of the Port Tobacco river is littered with crab pots. Nanjemoy Creek is one of the hottest creeks around in Sept/Oct. I have never crabbed here early don't know anyone else who has. Come Sept, you have a hard time finding a place to lay a line in Nanjemoy Creek. At this time of the year, I would try someplace near the mouth of the Port Tobacco or just plan on towing the boat further south on the Potomac. The Navy doesn't care about boats near the shore. There are several duck blinds right up on the bank of the navy property that the state manages.

Thanks. I think that's the creek I'm head to - wherever GooseBay is located. It looks a to be a good distance up the river for this early in the season. My parents haven't figured out how to tow a camper and boat at the same time yet so the wife and I are going along. I'll go anywhere if there's water.

Bob,
The Wicomico River is a good choice right now.

So Bushwood would be a good place to launch?

Bob,
Check the Potomac regs. I'm not sure if a MD license is valid there.
Strange laws.?!?!

Dale,
Now I'm really confused............ That's easy to do when you're me.
Please explain what you meant.
Is the MD license valid in the Pot.?
I was told it is not by the MD, NRP.
I was also told that my LCC is not valid there.
This pertains to the main stem of the river and M A Y B E not the MD tribs that empty into the Potomac.
I stay away from the place to keep from paying fines.
