I did not start until 6:30A.M., went to the Magothy by boat from Joppatown (a little rough today) crabbed 6:30- 11:30 caught 1 bu., (95% #1's.) I did not expect to catch alot. I think a week or Two and they should be rollen in the Magothy! By boat you get a later start, but it sure beats going down the highway in traffic!!!

Man thats a nice little run down from Joppatown, how long did it take ya? Just curious if you could recommend any boat launches in or around the Magothy. Does the state park right there before you go over the bay bridge have a boat launch? If so is there a fee and how long is it to run into the Magothy

The only place I know to launch is Sandy Point. On a clam day it takes about 50 min. from Mariner Point Park in Joppatown. Today because of the winds out of the south at 15mph it took about 1hr 15min. I really enjoy the ride on the water especially the ride home. The winds and chop were stiff coming back today, but they were behind us out of the south. The trips are planned after checking the wind conditions on the net. It beats interstate travel.

Pinchy03,

Sandy Point puts you in south side of the Bay Bridge, you have to go out and around to get to the Magothy approx 25 min guess. I put in just off the Bodkin in Back Creek takes me 25 min calm day.

Not sure exactly the ramp fee however I hear they have a yearly permit $75 gives you a swipe card an access long before the line of pay for the day boaters.

Hope this helps

An alternative to sandy pt is Fairwinds Marina (on the Magothy about 3/4 mile from the mouth). The marina is private but they allow public to launch for a fee; they're located at the far end of Cape St. Claire community off of College Pkwy in Arnold.

Details at their website: http://www.fairwindsmarina.com/

At least your honest Steve, you just enjoy the ride, the bay and a cold Natural Light. It doesn't get any better , we'll have to start calling you Capt. Chesapeake

Fairwinds Marina is also close to the mouth of the Bay on the Magothy. I Kept my boat there for a couple of years and it sure was convieniet to the Bay Bridge, Love Point and Podickory Pt.

Just be careful of large boat launching at low tide on the 2 ramps there. The Fairwinds people were very nice to deal with. [grin]

I have a 19' center console with a 115hp 4-stroke Merc. Round trip about 15 gal of gas. The crabs were fat and sweet, and yes......the Natural Light was cold!!!!!

Thanks for the info on the ramp. On a windy day like yesterday I will have to consider it.
