I coat my reel seats with a thin coat of silicone grease that fills any voids and gaps where water can collect and corrode. Pertoleum Jelly would serve the same prrpose. Just coat the length of the seat where it meets the rod as well as the end of the top sides of the reel seat. After tightening the reel to the rod (a strap wrench helps make a tight connection) wipe away any excess that squeezes out. A bit of the same silicone on the threads helps as well.

Don;t forget if you're using uni buts to disasseble them and grease the insides also. Beats me as to how salt gets up in there but it does and will make a real mess of things. I like this little jewel for tightening up the reel seats.

I use some Channel lock pliers with some hose over the ends. Double duty for the pliers
