I've got a couple of large spools of line and some leader that is 3 to 5 years old. It has been stored in my garage, so it hasn't been exposed to the sun. Does this stuff go bad?

Pull off about 30 ft., Throw away. Take another 20 ft and see what the breaking point is. Tie it off to something stationary, put a loop in other end. Put scale on loop, pull .Then you will know.
I use older line and it works well for me.

Mono is very cheap. Don't chance it the fish of a lifetime could be on the other end. Not worth the risk.....

I would personaly buy new mono. No sense in taking the risk on having old line on and having a fish of a lifetime break off, like said above.

I agree with you guys, and I never skimp on good tackle, but I have a 2 spools of ande with over 3000 yard on them. The money isn't the issue, I was just wondering how long this kind of stuff can be stored.

Mono should stay good as long as it is stored out of sun light and not exposed to excessive heat. I had a spool of 30 lb Ande that I stored away in my garage and forgotten about for about 8 years. I pulled off about ten yards and tested it and it broke around 34 lbs. I then spooled about 300 yards onto a reel and tested it again and I think it broke at 36 lbs that time.

it's been in a dark garage. I always try to keep my line out of the sun. I just tested the 40lb ande and seems fine.
