OI Conditions?

I read a good report from Pirates Cove from yesterday, the 18th. Right now, I'm planning on running from HI tomorrow but am concerned of the potential for stronger-than-I-would-like SW winds, especially when returning to the inlet. Before I commit, I'd like to know if any small boats have been able to make the run out of OI. From all I have read, I am very concerned about this inlet and would not plan on running it unless behind a big charter or at least behind someone who's been out of it recently. Any updates as to conditions for small boats at OI?

With the big swell yesterday a few boats out of Pirates Cove ran the gut all the way to Hatteras Inlet. Today's radio said about a dozen boats crossed the bar today. As long as the swell is down a small boat can go anywhere a Charter can.

I was down there yesterday taking the boat for a run and when I stuck my nose out there I turned right around. The inlet turns NE now istead fo striaght out. You run almost parallel to the shore. I could have surfed it yesterday.


Also Ellison "Outer Limits" warned me that the inlet is bad even on 3 foot days. They are having to throttle back.

It was fine yesterday (the 19th). A lot of small boats ran it just fine...no breaking swells at all in the channel. I'm sure any sort of NE wind will be nasty...only about 9-10ft on the bar from what I saw on the sounder.
