Just though I'd take a shot at seeing if any of you have any PENN 50's you may be interested in selling.
I need to get my setup finished fast so I can finally make TERP HEELS my boat biatch for once [grin][grin]
Thanks

Jack

I have 2 50 vsw 2 speeds. 3 years old. I bought 6 but I just bought 2 Shimano 30 Tiagras so I figure I could let 2 go. I may even sell the rods. 50 to 130 5'-6" standup are too heavy for the 30's.

SG,

The old style Penn drags are very very lousy. I had mine rebuilt three times and finally told Penn they were trash and if they didn't take care of it, I was going to through them in the trash.

They said they agreed and that is why they developed this new drag. He said the old owners didn't want to admit that the HT100 drag had major problems. He convinced me to give them another shot. My last trip was the first with the new drags, and the prelim report is that they seemed as smooth as the Tiagras.

Penn has lost most of there offshore custs b/c of the old drag serging and pulling off fish. Shimano took those custs with the Tiagras.

My point is, only go with Penns if you are willing to spend $40/reel to get the new drag... else, get Shimanos.

Anyone who argues differently has not compared the two.

I can't say for sure. I know they were supposed to slip some in over the past couple years. Call Penn or try Anthony at Princess Anne. He has info on them. Most severe testing to come![grin] Personally, I'll never buy another International.

I bought 4 VSWs earlier in the spring. I called Penn and had them run the serials to see if they had the new drags in them. They didn't, but Penn was nice enough to send me new ones free of charge. While I was at it, I purchased the other ones to replace my old Internationals. They are worlds better than the old HT 100s.

River marine supply www.rivermarinesupply.com has 30T on sale for $299 and 50T on sale for $329. These are not 2 speeds or wides but it is an incredible price.
