Long, long day with lots of grass. Lots of Grass is an understatement. Started out with a plan to go to the Norfolk, but were worried about the wind so we went SE toward the cigar. Ride out was great at 20kts in total darkness. The stars were incredible. The big diper was off our port the whole way out. 8:00, lines in and we are immediately treated with weeds, weeds, and more weeds. I'll skip ahead because thats all that happened till 12:00. No knockdowns, weeds everwhere. We trolled deep, back inshore, and back deep.. Couldn't get away from the salad. Finally we found some clear water and bam, smoker tuna. Almost spooled a 50. Lost fish after 30 minute battle,(GM speed bar). Oh well, at least it was a hit. Go back to the mark, never make it. Long rigger goes off. Connor(c-note), fights the good battle and 40lb yft in the box,(P/B hoo). Back to the mark, bam bird/gm is smoking on the 80W, took us down to the dacron. Big fish, I saw him hit and the splash was big. Fought him for 30 minutes, gone. ^$%%^%^$%^. Start trolling again back to mark when all hell breaks loose. Jim,(Jim Christ), starts yelling "billfish is knocking the bait behind the spreader." I turn just in time to see the splash as Connor drops the bait back. Line is going double time, hook him up and nobody is home. ^&$%^$%^% again. Keep our course for about 2-3 minutes and there he is. I look back to see all 6-7 ft of him come surfing down the 2nd wake right behind the boat. Really pretty scene. He goes deep and we are ready to be pissed again. Long rigger pops at that very moment. I'm sad to say I started dropping back, but it was the short with the speed GM bar. I'm rusty, what can I say. Definetly took some sht for that. Connor dropped back the long but he was gone. Rest of the day we picked off bailer sized mahi on the troll and enjoyed a 30 kt ride home. Great day with lots of weeds, action, friends, and beers. I was just glad to get out after a month and a half. We were treated with the best weather I have fished in a long time. The weatherman was way off. 2-3 fters tops with winds no more then 15 kt gusts. Tuna and marlin bite came at the 165 in 35 fathoms. Good luck tommorow guys and keep those ballys out their. The marlin are not gone yet and the mahi crushed our nakeds. Oh yeah, heard of a good bite in waynes world, but not sure how the norfolk bite was if anyone made it.
