Announcing the 1st Annual Saltwater Fly Fishing Conclave sponsored by the Saltwater Fly Anglers of Delaware fly fishing club. [grin] The event dates are Friday Oct. 20, Saturday the 21st, and Sunday the 22nd. All interested saltwater fly anglers and clubs are welcome to attend. Fish possibilities include stripers, blues, weakfish, shad, flounder, and croaker.

The event is free and is scheduled to bring together fly anglers and clubs to fish our area’s waters. Please help us to make this event a success by attending and adding your own expertise!

The Sand Palace motel in Dewey Beach, Delaware (www.sandpalacemotel.com) has been selected to accommodate visiting anglers and a special rate for the Conclave has been negotiated. The rate for Friday or Saturday is $59.00 + 8% tax and Sunday is $35.00 + 8% tax.

Reservations are to be made by each interested individual at their own cost by mentioning that you are with the Saltwater Fly Anglers of Delaware Conclave to get the special rate. The motel phone number for reservations is (302) 227-4000 or 800-775-SAND.

Please notify club member Dave Fetterman of your attendance at fetterd@nationwide.com or (302) 422-3079 in order to provide adequate club preparation.

A Hospitality Room will be open from Friday at 1 PM to 10 PM and Saturday at 9 AM to 10 PM. It will be cleaned up Sunday morning prior to check-out time, so there will be someone there for reports. Those who are able to fish Sunday morning can report any catches via cell phone or e-mail after that. The event will terminate when the last person’s fly leaves the water on Sunday!

Hospitality Room Features:
1 - FREE Coffee, soda, water and snacks
2 - Fly fishing videos on display daily
3 - Fly tying of local patterns by club members
4 – FREE Guiding and instruction on local beach spots
5 - FREE map showing fishing locations

What's the agenda? Are we surf fishing in Dewey, running up to Henlopen, towing boats down?

What's the event?

Hey, thanks for the quick replies! I just posted the message this morning![grin]

Paxfish - Since this is our first year, we are in the learning stage so the agenda is not anything formal. The concept is modeled after the Atlantic Saltwater Fly Rodders Fall Classic which is held in November. A similar but much larger 'conclave' has been held every June for about 40 years by the Salty Flyrodders of New York up on the north fork of Long Island. Most guys will be fishing from shore at Henlopen, various ocean beaches from Henlopen down to 3Rs below the Indian River Inlet, and various other places we have found to be productive such as the bay beaches in Lewes. One of our coveted fishing maps is part of the program and there will be plenty of club members that know the area to be guided by.

As far as I know, there are no rules against fishing from a boat but I will check with the other Board members and post here if I am wrong.

Ken- glad to hear the weekend is free for you and Dianne. It should be a good time.

Sawyer - glad you can make it as well. Should be worth the trip.

I'll post other information about the event as it gets closer. Be sure to contact Dave Fetterman about your plans as he is coordinating the shindig for the club.

Could I come up and hock fishing trips? I have a full booth setup and would love to show some LGMouth trips too. I would gladly particapate since I do a little salt fishing as well. Just a wee bit mind you..

I'm gonna put this one on the calendar, but with no gaurantees, as I already have a trip to NJ in October and one in Nov.

I'd love to go, though...

Okay Pax, bring your boat if you want. No reason not to!

Capt. Mike, you are welcome to come and put out your brochures but leave the booth at home. We will only have a motel room for the hospitality suite and there just won't be the room for the booth.

This is a low key event with emphasis on fishing and camaraderie with your fellow fly fishermen and fisherwomen![smile]
