While I haven't heard anything more this morning, last night's news said the whale may have died from 'blunt force trauma' to the head. The kind of injury the whale would have if it hit a boat!

The 'Chief' hit 'something black' in the middle of the night. Almost everything looks black in the middle of the night. Connecting this whale to the 'Chief' incident, removed by more than 30 miles, seems like a shot in the dark by those who would like to think there is nothing else out there that is dangerous.
I wouldn't rule out the whale, just need substantially better stuff before I would sign on the dotted line that this is what happened.

Sideburns, I relied on another post that the incident happened at night. That appears inaccurate, and I regret the error. Most reports now indicate it happened Saturday morning, not 'about noon.' The reports also indicate the guys were rescued 70 miles from shore, and the incident happened 30 miles from shore. It's certainly possible that the wind and currents pushed the raft away from shore, while at the same time pushing a dead whale towards the shore. There are also reports that a lot of debris from the boat has also been spotted quite a ways offshore. Why didn't the debris go the same direction and speed the dead whale did? There are lots of questions and speculation on the incident. All the 'facts' may never be straight. That is no reason to not post opinions on the board.
The rules on punctuation and spelling are pretty well settled, however. [grin][grin][grin]
