Fished on the Marli out of Sunset Marina.
Got out to the Baltimore Canyon around 7am. Just us and about 3 other boats.
No wind at the marina but by the time we got out there it was blowing around 20 knots out of the NW.
Second bait in the water gets hit no more than 100 ft from back of the boat.
20 minutes later a 45' BFT hits the deck - unfortunately 2' short. Back it goes.
Put out the rest of the spread. 15 minutes later - 2 on - just a couple of damn bonitas. Back they go.
15 minutes later after the spread was set, the shotgun goes off WWWB.
Line kept going and going. Finally turned the fish with a quarter spool left on an 80.
90 minutes later and with 4 guys manning the rod, a nice 137 lb, 64' BFT hit the deck.

Three of the guys fishing had never caught a tuna before in their lives. What a great way to start the day!
We had non stop action until 1pm. Had a 30 lb yft in the box, then lost a nice 60-70lb YFT at the back of the boat due to a swivel breaking :( Then had a wahoo shread a line. Then had numerous bite offs/short hits. Had another nice 60-70lb YFT up to the back and had a pulled hook. A third YFT had a main line snap above the leader - no explanation except for mechanical failure.
Hit another big school of bonitas and must have caught about 6-8 - we stayed with them for awhile looking for some more YFT but it just didn't happen. Found a big blue fish and that was about it.
Headed in after an exciting day. Didn't put as many fish in the box as we would have liked but it was fun anyway. That big BFT made the day. Biggest fish I have ever been part of catching.
Wind was out of the NNE by then and had some big swells for the ride back.

Supposedly another boat that day caught a 70', 190 lb BFT.

There's some good fishing out there right now - too bad the weather is so crappy.
