Jon, First off, sometimes we lose lures to structure. But there are a few things that can be done to minimize those times. Using non-stretch line like power pro or any braided. Keeping your 6'-7- med action graphite spinning rod at approximately a 90 deg angle to the sinking line for maximum sensitivity. Not having any more line out than you actually need. Counting down your bucktail so you know where it is, based upon a known sink rate. keeping slack out of the line and being in contact with the bucktail in it's controlled fall. And moving it at the slightest tap or unexpected slackness.

It's a technique thing easily taught, difficult to describe.
