North Carolina Fishing Reports

There have been good numbers of yellow and blackfin tuna and wahoo. The numbers of yellowfins are steadily increasing but the blackfins definitely outnumber the yellowfins. Anglers are also seeing some nice shark action and are having success catching false albacore, taylor blues and speckled trout.

North Carolina anglers are experiencing a decent run of channel bass and chopper bluefish. Offshore boats are loading up on king mackerel, yellowfin tuna, dolphin, and a few billfish. Inshore activity is good for smaller king mackerel and false albacore. Inlet anglers may expect taylor blues, speckled trout, flounder, sea bass and puppy drum.

As we transition into the cooler fall weather and colder water temperatures, much of the marlin and blackfin tuna action has subsided and we are beginning to see more yellowfin, dolphin and an occasional wahoo. However, there are still marlin out there for the taking!

The billfish are making their showing and the bite is on! Anglers have been taking advantage of the great billfish action. There have also been good catches of white marlin, Taylor blues and Spanish macks with an occasional false albacore; they are super fast, giving anglers a run for their money. Also, the grey trout seem to be making a comeback, hopefully their numbers will continue to grow. ...

The fall fishing season is shaping up. However, the sporadically windy days this time of year make getting out a challenge. This is the time for speckled trout; anglers are already seeing decent numbers and are hopeful for a good fall season. The cobia are still lingering near the mouth of the Bay. Big red drum are making their end of season comeback. The amberjack are still available and decent sized spot are still hitting in the lower Bay and oceanfront areas. Finally, the billfish bite is still on mostly offshore and anglers will find lots of blue marlin, white marlin, and sailfish action ...
