First I would like to welcome our new Maryland fishing reports sponsor for the 2011 fishing season, the Solomon's Charter Captain's Association. I've fished the area of the lower Chesapeake Bay for long time and can attest to the great fishing the area offers. I personally know many of the captains that are in the association and you'll not find a better group of captains who will put you on great fishing and provide some fun. If you are looking to do some fishing this coming year with family and friends, check out their site and book your fishing charter by clicking here.
As for fishing, man is it cold and windy in the Maryland Chesapeake Bay region, but the fishing has been hot for striped bass in the middle and lower area of the Chesapeake and yellow perch fishing has been on fire up in and around Northeast. Capt. Mike Benjamin fishing out of Herbs Tackle reports that the yellow perch fishing in the Susquehanna River has continued to be spectacular. Check the Maryland Fishing Forum for his reports and pictures during the week.
Striped Bass fishing at the warm water discharges in the region are producing some really nice sized striped bass as seen by fellow Tidal Fisher Graybeard showing off that monster striper caught while fishing with Capt. Walleye Pete this past week (for his full fishing report click here). Capt. Pete reports that the fishing has been off and on, but when it's on, it's on. If you are fishing the Calvert Cliffs discharge Capt Pete suggests making sure you are drifting out past the clam marker before doing another drift because sometimes during the tide cycle the stripers have been holding pretty far out. Other warm water discharges in the area have also been producing some nice fish as well.
While the fishing has been good, its also the Fishing Show and Seminars time of year with something happening just about every weekend. Last week we had a Tidal Fish booth at the first annual Kent Island MSSA's Fishing Flea Market. It was well done, had a really great turn out with anglers coming from as far away as Virginia and nice to catch up with so many fellow Tidal Fishers. A run down of upcoming Fishing Shows, Seminars and Flea Markets is below so you can mark your calendars:
