It's been a scorcher in the Maryland region and the heat got me behind on getting out the Maryland fishing reports, but better late then never. Along with the hot weather has come some hot fishing in the Chesapeake Bay from the Bay Bridge down to the Gas docks in the lower Maryland portion of the bay for striped bass. Overall you can find some spot, throw them in the live well drop them in some hot areas such as in and around the Bay Bridge, Poplar Island, the False Channel or the Gas Docks and have yourself some good fun with plenty of keepers. Croaker fishing continues to be good through out the middle and lower bay region. Blue fish are becoming more prevalent in the lower Maryland bay, but working their way south. The offshore fishing out of Ocean City has also been heating up, white marlin are on the scene, along with wahoo, and plenty of tuna. Check the reports for all the details

(pictured above this week is Tidal Fisher Capt. Charlie Schneider from Big Will Fishing on Tilghman Island, MD with a few of his crew from the other day who was live lining for rockfish around the False Channel area. The bite has been hot he said, catch his full fishing report here )

    Fishing Reports
Upper Maryland Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
Captain Mike Benjamin from Herb's Tackle reports in about fishing in the upper portion of the Chesapeake Bay in and around the Susquehanna Flats, "It's unusual for this time of year, but there are rockfish on the Susquehanna Flats and at the mouth of the Susquehanna River. Most are short of the limit, but put some time in and you can catch some keepers. Lures or bait are working. Catfishing is good in the Susquehanna River and on the flats. Cut bait is the way to go. Largemouth bass fishing continues to excellent using artificial lures. Fishing on the Susquehanna Flats proper in and around the grass beds has also been good in the early mornings and evenings, mid day has been dead and not worth going unless you want a sun burn.Go get'em. Good luck out there!"

The word from the Bay Bridge is that there are good numbers of stripers in the area. The key challenge has been finding the smaller spot. Hackets Point at the mouth of the Severn River has been the area, but has mostly been holding nice sized white perch and small rockfish. The bite on the spot changes daily, but hit it right and you can get a few for the live well and make your way over to the pilings and drunk one and get yourself a keeper.

Middle Maryland Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
Capt, Mark Galasso from Tuna the Tide Fishing Charters fishing out of Kent Island, MD reported in: Fishing has been pretty good. There is a good chumming bite up north of Love Point. Get there early!!! Also a good live bait bite at the False Channel. The trick is finding small Spot. A few breaking fish are starting to show around Poplar Island. If you blink you'll miss em! Good Perch and Spot fishing north and south of Kent Island.

Capt. Steve Goins from Stormy Petrel Charters fishing out of Deale Maryland reported in It's hot, but the the fishing is pretty hit too. Spot are being caught in good numbers around Herring Bay....got to look around for them and when found you can load up pretty quick. Also some nice perch to 14 inches up on the oyster bar. Live-lining for rockfish has been the ticket with a good grade of fish and frequent over 28's, the downside is that you have to run across the Bay to find them stacked up. Takes longer in travel time than it does to get a 6 person limit. Bluefish up to 5 lbs. have finally started showing up, Stone Rock is the place, trolling small spoons with down-planers....guess the low salinity has made them late. No Spanish Macs yet but hopefully soon.

Capt. Buddy Harrison Jr. from Harrison's Chesapeake House Sportfishing on Tilghman Island charter captains have been having good success live lining spot around the False Channel and Gas Dock area. Plenty of nice sized rockfish have been being caught on each trip. Spot are in good numbers at the mouth of the Choptank River, blood worms do the job. Croaker have been good at the airplane wreck and off the Sands area, very early morning or dark have been the key times.

Capt. Charlie Schneider Fishing on the " Big Will out of ", Tilghman Island, MD reported in: Fishing has been excellent for rockfish. We have been live lining spot in the False Channel area getting keeper rockfish every trip.

Tylers Tackle in Chesapeake Beach Maryland reported, Rockfish are being caught trolling and live lining. The live liners have been using live spot that are being caught in the Choptank between the number 9 and number 10 buoy using bloodworms, then they have been setting up for rockfish around the #4 buoy at the False Channel and inside the mouth of Eastern Bay in about 25-35’ of water. The rockfish are being caught trolling off of Breezy Point in 24-30’ of water – south to Parker’s Creek and from the Stone Rock to Poplar Island in 25-30’ of water using small tandem bucktails and #1 and #2 planners with #1 and #2 drone spoons. Some nice school of blue fish are being caught around the Stone Rock in 18-30’ of water using surgical hose. Bottom fishing for spot and perch has been good this week off Holland Point in 15-17’ of water. Spot, croakers and perch are also being caught in the Choptank at #9 and #10 buoys. Nice spot have are also being caught behind Poplar Island in 12-15’ of water.

The North Beach and Breezy Point Pier have been producing spot, croakers and perch using bloodworms, squid, shrimp and razor clams.

Lower Maryland Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
Capt. Sonney Forrest from the Solomons Charter Captains Association is still on vacation chasing fins in Florida. He should be back reporting this coming week.

Capt. Greg Buckner from Miss Susie Charters fishing out of Solomons Island reported in with this hot fishing report.Wow!!! Is the only way to describe the light tackle live lining bite going on right now out of Solomons Island for beautiful rockfish up to 38 inches. To give yo an idea how good it has been the other afternoon we landed 12 rockfish over 30 inches in less than 30 minutes. Come and get'em!

Capt. Kevin Josenhans from Josehans Fly Fishing fishing out of Tangier Sound area reported he is still doing well in Tangier Sound with the early morning top-water bite on shallow-water rockfish. The last few trips have produced some massive blow-ups from stripers up to 30 inches casting Storm Chug Bug and Stillwater Smack-it! poppers. This is exciting fishing and reminds one of what the Susquehanna Flats used to be like. As the sun gets high and the topwater action slows we are still enjoying some incredible flounder fishing, with limits of the tasty flatfish from 18" to 23". Jigged Li'l Jimy bucktails from Specialized Baits in the 3/4 ounce size are producing well, as are Berkley Gulp! Swimming Mullet baits on a 3/4 - 1 oz. chartreuse jig-head. From reports up the bay, it seems there is something holding the fish in this area of the bay and Tangier Sound - maybe salinity levels? Enjoying it while it lasts!
