Rain rain go away are the words coming from Maryland fishermen over the last few weeks. Between all the run off and high winds anglers have had a hard time catching a break. The water in the upper bay to the Bay Bridge and below is a mess, debris everywhere and the water the color of chocolate milk. The debris and ugly water extends below the Choptank River, however reports are that in Maryland's lower Chesapeake the water is pretty clear. How long that will hold with more rain and the mess working its way down the bay is anyone's guess. Most of the fishing reports this week are coming from Maryland's lower Chesapeake with upper and middle bay anglersopting not to risk boat damage from hitting something. The lower Chesapeake has however been producing nice sized spanish mackerel, keeper rockfish and some nice sized bluefish. Check the reports for all the details
(pictured above this week is TidalFisher Rivercat09 with a decent striper caught on topwater in the middle Chesapeake around Poplar Island. Rivercat09 said that despite dodging debris and the stained water, topwater baits seemed to do the trick. Check catch his full fishing reporthere)

Upper Maryland Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
Captain Mike Benjamin from Herb's Tackle reports in about fishing in the upper portion of the Chesapeake Bay in and around the Susquehanna Flats, It's muddy, depris is everywhere. Hopefully I'll have something better to report next week.
The word from the Bay Bridge is muddy water. Tidal Fisher JA Veil did some recon in his kayak the other day to check the bridge conditions. The report is not good, muddy water and lots of depris. Check out his full report with tons of pictures from around the Bay Bridge here.
Middle Maryland Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
Captain Richie Gaines from Anglers Connection reported in: Fishing was barely achievable this week. Early in the week there was a small pocket of clean water in EBay that held a few fish but this has now disappeared. I have shut down operations for a week or two until things clear up. Prior to the durty water the topwater bite in shallow water had heated up with plenty of large fish showing up.
Capt, Mark Galasso from Tuna the Tide Fishing Charters fishing out of Kent Island, MD reported in: No fishing due to conditions.
Capt. Steve Goins from Stormy Petrel Charters fishing out of Deale Maryland reported in Only fished one day last week and with the extremely poor water quality it wasn't a banner day. Although we caught some fish livelining, and some others bottom fishing, it was a slow catch all day. I don't really expect improvement for a couple weeks until the Bay clears up.
Capt. Buddy Harrison Jr. from Harrison's Chesapeake House Sportfishing on Tilghman Island reported: Live lining is still good in the False Channel - live spot for bait of course. Blue fish have hit the area as well as the chocolate water, it however has not affected the fishing other than the first day. However with high nw winds the end of last week things should get mixed up which can change things.
Small rock showing up breaking in the Choptank with blues as well as starting ot show up on the shorelines up around Harris Creek. Some keeper rock and trout being caught in Knapps Narrows at the edge of dark on peelers.
We started some oysters on the buffets this past weekend, the first Oyster Buffet will be October 7 starting at 5p. Heres wishin good fishin...
Capt. Charlie Schneider Fishing on the " Big Will out of ", Tilghman Island, MD has not been out yet because of water conditions, he hopes to be back on the water for a report soon.
Tylers Tackle in Chesapeake Beach Maryland reported :
Rockfish are being caught trolling and live lining. The live liners have been using live spot that are being caught in the Choptank between the number 9 and number 10 buoy using bloodworms, then they have been setting up for rockfish around the #4 buoy at the False Channel. The rockfish are being caught trolling off of Breezy Point in 24-35’ of water using small bucktails with pork rinds and drone spoons with #1 and #2 planers – Some nice bluefish are being caught around the Stone Rock to Poplar Island in 20-35’ of water using surgical hose and spoons. Bottom fishing for perch has been good off Holland Point in 15-17’ of water. Spot and perch are also being caught in the Choptank at #9 and #10 buoys.
The North Beach and Breezy Point Pier have been producing spot, some rockfish and perch using bloodworms, squid, shrimp and razor clams.

Capt. Greg Buckner from Miss Susie Charters fishing out of Solomons Island reported in that the water remains pretty clear and the fishing good. Good catches of spanish mackerel, and stripers and blues around. Let's go fishing!
Capt. Kevin Josenhans from Josehans Fly Fishing fishing out of Tangier Sound area reported The water is clear in Tangier Sound except for days when the wind muddies up the shallows. So far, there has been no adverse effects from the tropical storms. Bluefish have been Hot! Hot! Hot! Fly and spin fishermen are having a blast catching all the 2 - 5 pound bluefish they can handle. These fish are a riot on light tackle, with hard-charging strikes on poppers and dazzling jumps that would make a baby tarpon proud. Speckled trout are around in the shallows, but once a few blues are hooked, all thoughts of specks seems to vanish.
