    Northern North Carolina Tidal Waters Fishing Reports (North Carolina line to Ocracoke)
    Overall Summary for the region
    Ocean: Once again, adverse weather limited anglers. Offshore anglers had a few favorable days and managed to catch amberjack, dolphin, wahoo, king mackerel and assorted tunas, including yellowfin, blackfin, little tunny, skipjack and Atlantic bonito. Anglers bottom fishing out of the Ocracoke and Hatteras areas produced vermilion snapper, blackbelly rosefish, snowy and gag grouper and a few others in lesser amounts. Anglers fishing in the midrange area caught king mackerel around the 10- to 12-mile range, along with some red drum and striped bass.

    11/27/2011 Offshore the tuna fishing was a little slower than yesterday, with a nice catch of wahoo. Our inshore fleet had catches of tautogs and sharks. The nearshore fleet definitely had the most varitey in their catch with seabass, tautogs, weakfish, and a few pig fish. There were no photographers here today so if you fished with us and would not mind email us a picture of you catch at info@oregon-inlet.com.

    11/26/2011 Some citation sea bass were weighed in today by our inshore boats with weights of 5 pounds and 5.8 pounds. Along with the citation sea bass there was a citation triggerfish weighed in at 5 pounds. Nearshore they were shark fishing today and were rather successful. The offshore fleet had nice catches of yellowfin tuna today including a few limits. Some of the offshore fleet picked up a few tiles on their way in.

    11/25/2011 We had a very nice day fishing. Most of the boats had their limits of yellowfin tuna. Our nearshore boats caught blues, sea bass, sharks and a limit of tile. The inshore boat caught some trout, tautogs, and some sharks.

    11/23/2011 We did not have any boats that went out today. Yellowfin tuna fishing was very good yesterday and hopefully when the boats get back out fishing will be awesome. Still waiting for the stripers to come in.

    11/22/2011 Great fishing today for all of our fleets! Nearshore we had nice sea bass, some blue fish, flounder, and some albacore. Our offshore fleet had several limits of yellowfin tuna.

    11/21/2011 There were some scattered yellowfin tuna and a few blackfin tuna caught today along with a few gaffer dolphins on our offshore fleet. A citation blue marlin was caught and released today as well. Our nearshore boats brought in some nice sea bass, triggerfish, bluefish and a flounder. Our inshore boat brought in a very nice 25 lb. striper. Nice to see any fish but especially nice to see the striper coming in to the inlet.

    11/20/2011 The nearshore fleet reported good sea bass fishing today. We had a citation sea bass wieghed in at 4 pounds 2 ounces at the fish house. Our offshore fleet had another great day of tuna fishing with some limits of yellowfin tun reported.

    Inlets/Sounds/Bays: Spotted seatrout and striped bass continued to be targeted heavily by anglers in these waters. Spotted seatrout were caught almost exclusively in the early morning hours and then again just before dark. There were nice catches throughout the area. Roanoke and Croatan Sound anglers had good luck with striped bass. Large spots, along with plenty of croaker and kingfish, were caught on a regular basis.

    Piers/Beaches: Anglers managed to catch some spotted seatrout, kingfish and croaker in the near-shore surf zone. Small bluefish and both smooth and spiny dogfish were caught in the surf zone from Avon southward. There was also an increase in red drum catches.

    Central North Carolina Tidal Waters Fishing Reports (Ocracoke Inlet to Surf City)
    Overall Summary for the region
    Ocean: Anglers reported offshore catches of wahoo at the 90-foot drop. Anglers bottom fishing reported very nice porgies, little tunny, grunts, triggerfish and pigfish. Near shore at Cape Lookout shoals, anglers caught little tunny (false albacore) and kingfish (sea mullet).

    Capt. Joe Shute's Bait and Tackle Report in Atlantic Beach reported that fishing offshore yesterday was slow from the fishermen that I talked to.* There were a few wahoo caught and a few blackfin tuna and I heard of a sailfish caught as well. Speckled trout fishing is still doing well.* There are still large numbers of smaller specs just about everywhere you fish.* There has been good catches of legal size specs both in the marshes and on the beach and up at the Cape Lookout rock jetty. There has been a good number of 20 inch plus gray trout up around the jetty as well.

    Inlets/Sounds/Bays: Anglers reported nice trout in the coastal areas of the rivers and striped bass in the joint waters of the rivers. Flounder reports were spotty at the N. C. Port wall and black drum were reported down in the White Oak River.

    Piers/Shore: Anglers fishing from the beaches caught black drum, pigfish, croaker, bluefish and kingfish (sea mullet). Trout continued to be caught on the beach and at the jetties.

    Southern North Carolina Tidal Waters Fishing Reports (Surf City to North Carolina line)
    Overall Summary for the Region
    Ocean: When weather permitted, anglers caught wahoo in the 30- to 80-pound range. Fishermen caught a few blackfin tuna and sailfish, as well. Anglers bottom fishing caught gag, red and scamp groupers. Anglers targeting king mackerel around Frying Pan Tower had good luck, with some catching their limit. Near-shore reefs produced a few flounder and gray trout.

    Inlets/Sounds/Bays: The rock jetties at Masonboro and Little River inlets produced some nice sized trout. Red drum were caught in good numbers with the best fishing coming from the lower Cape Fear River and behind Bald Head Island. Good catches of sea mullet, along with some gray trout, were caught around the mouth of the Cape Fear River.

    Piers/Shore: Anglers fishing on the piers reported catching lots of small black drum, puffers and some large sea mullet. Surf anglers caught red and black drum, speckled trout and a few sea mullets.
