Millions of shad eggs are being shipped from the Potomac to the Rappahannock River.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is soliciting proposals to restore the habitats and water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers and streams. The Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund will award approximately $8 million - $10 million in grants in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Program. The world�s largest striped bass tournament, the 30th annual Championship on the Chesapeake, concluded May 5^th with 470 boats and nearly 3,500 anglers. Here are the crab industry advisory committee's agreed-upon option for bushel-limit reductions in the 2013 crabbing season. These limits will ensure that the 2013 harvest of mature female crabs stays in balance with the substantially lower number of crabs that are available to the fishery this year. The 2013 harvest target for mature female crabs is 10% lower than the 2012 harvest level and these limits will achieve the 10% reduction.

Jonathan Wilkerson of Oxford was fishing Kerr Reservoir with 10lb. test and a plastic fluke on March 20 when he hooked into a 23.5 lb new state record freshwater drum. It had been more than a year since a N.C. record has been broken.

Incredibly, less than two weeks later another record was shattered when 17 year-old Holly Springs resident, Joey Boretilli, caught a football-shaped white crappie weighing in just shy of four pounds.

Watermen, restaurant owners, county commissioners and others are headed for Raleigh today to argue against a bill that would prohibit commercial catches of striped bass and other gamefish.

A public forum on the bill will be held at 1:30 p.m., said state Rep. Paul Tine, a Dare County Democrat.
