Striped bass action has been excellent at times around the Ocean City jetties. Light-tackle anglers casting the shallows around lower bay islands have enjoyed speckled trout action, plus they have also hooked plenty of rockfish. Bottom bouncers have caught spot, croaker and perch. Sea bass fishing on the reefs and other structure off Ocean City has been improving. The weather has limited fishing activity at times, as conditions

DELAWARE FISHING REPORT - Updated June 06, 2013

Sharks are big news on the Delaware fishing scene, as the first catches of makos and threshers have been made and anglers are looking forward to more big-game excitement in the days and weeks ahead. Striped bass have been biting in Indian River Inlet and around rock structure in Delaware Bay. Most of the flounder action has been reported in shallow-water locations such as the Lewes Canal and around the Cape Henlopen Pier; expect those fish to soon move to deeper-water haunts in the bay and ocean. Sea bass action seems to be getting better and a few big 3 pounders, and a huge 5 pounder, have been reported.
Size: 14.9 KB" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />The rockfish chumming bite has been fantastic! Quick limits have been reported in 30 to 35 feet of water at many locations. Lots of cow-nosed rays are also cruising chum slicks and inhaling baits. Plenty of 18- to 28-inch rockfish have been stacked up around structure in Eastern Bay. Anglers fishing soft crab baits and jigging plastics along the pilings of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge have enjoyed strong striper action. Spot are showing up in better numbers and anglers are ivelining them for rockfish. Hefty

Size: 9.6 KB" class="align_center" /> Here’s hoping your Memorial Day holiday weekend includes opportunities to fish. If the weather is decent, there will be lots of boats anchored up on the coral beds off Slaughter Beach in the evenings this weekend, soaking gobs of clam on the bottom for brawny black drum of 35 to 90 pounds. The full moon in May is a traditional prime time for black drum, and the full moon is on Saturday. Striped bass and flounder are other heavily targeted pecies over the Memorial Day weekend. There’s been striped bass action in Indian River Inlet, the

Size: 12.5 KB" class="align_center" />Chesapeake Bay chummers have been making nice rockfish catches. The chumming bite is the best it’s been in years! Most days, with decent conditions, it doesn’t take long to chum up limit catches, and they’ve included some hefty rockfish of more than 30 inches. Spot have made their initial appearance in a number of areas, and that means many anglers will soon be fishing for and catching spot to liveline for stripers. Light-tackle anglers have jigged up rockfish on the channel edges. Memorial Day weekend is typically black drum

Big black drum are biting in Delaware Bay, and the best is yet to come. Let’s hope for nice weather with little wind over the holiday weekend. Initial action has lready begun at the coral beds

Size: 13.9 KB" class="align_center" />As of May 16, new striped bass regulations are in effect on Maryland’s portion of Chesapeake Bay. From May 16 until June 1, anglers can keep 2 stripers from 18 to 28 inches, or 1 at 18 to 28 inches and 1 larger than 28 inches per day. Other than a few exceptions, fishermen are still limited to the bay's main stem Chesapeake Bay.

While striped bass action above the Chesapeake Bay Bridges has fizzled out, there has been very strong chumming action at Hacketts and Podickory Point. Rockfish

Flounder have also been caught in the shallow water around the Cape Henlopen Pier. Anglers fishing the pier at night have hooked flounder along the light line. Hefty tautog have been crunching green crab and clam baits at the walls in the lower bay, and on artificial reefs and other structure in Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean; the biggest challenge for anglers has been finding ays without a lot of wind and rough seas.

Wind, wind and more wind! Seems like the wind just won't subside for any length of time this spring. Blustery weather has made for challenging and uncomfortable fishing conditions on Chesapeake Bay and its tidal rivers. Anglers who have braved the elements have managed to catch some fish, but action will improve significantly as soon as the wind backs off.

Very good trolling action with big rockfish to 40 inches is still being reported in the Crisfield
