Getting ready for one more run down South all of Thanksgiving weekend if the weathers right. Hoping the yellers are still around off HI in that warm water break.
I HAVE BEEN USING NYLON SEWING THREAD THEN ONCE ITS TIED ILL BRUSH CLEAR NAIL POLISH ON THE THREAD. I HAVE BEEN USING 1/4 ONCE CHIN WIEGHTS. THEY SEEM TO WORK THE BEST. GOOD LUCK, I ENJOY TYING MY OWN.
OH SORRY, I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT. IVE USED 1/3, 1/4 AND 1 ONCE. I USE THE SMALLER WIEGHTS WHEN ITS CALM AND THE FISH ARE ON THE SURFACE. I TRY TO RESERVE THE HEAVY WIEGHTS WHEN ITS CHOPPY OR THE FISH ARE DEEP.
If you will use a fly tying bobbin and heavy flat waxed or kevlar thread you can tie the witches very quickly and easily. I use pliobond to finish off the heads. I prefer 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz. heads for the yellowfin tuna. for the bluefins I like to use the 1 oz. heads and the 3 oz. heads. If you need any head s I manufacture all the above weights and colors.
I'll tell you what. I've tied a few but by far the best we've used is the squid-witches Becky has tied. They are awesome. Ask Bill (HIT N RUN) about them and he'll tell you that's all he pulls.
BMAIL Becky and she'll set you up with her system.
I am just kidding, but a good friend of mine who is one of the best mates ever in Hatteras, I asked him once, why his witches worked so good, and he told me his secret.
Mint dental floss.
I think eric uses what ever string he has and seals it with zap-a-gap thick formula. but be careful not to get any glue on the hair.
