How many collasible traps can I use in VA waters? Is there a license I need to purchase? I'm talking about the 12"x12"x6" traps.

The short answer is two. For a $36 license you can use 5. In VA law there is no difference between collaspable (sp?) traps and regular 24x24x24 inch crab pots.

Where can I purchase the larger traps? is theer a size restriction on the traps? Is there a website that shows how to make them?
Thanks!
I bought my pots from the Boater's World in Hampton. If you want to build one, here's a website with plans. http://www.blue-crab.org/crabpot/
I buy my from Sheifields Market in Poquoson. Make sure you get some zincs the pots will last longer. Local hardware stores and a number of the bait shops have them also.
Oh and there is a cull ring requirement. There have to be two in the upper chamber one has to be at least 2 5/16 the other at least 2 3/16 inside diameter.
The size of a crab pot is not really defined in code or regualtion. The mesh has to be at least 1 1/2 inches if it is baited. The ones with smaller mesh are peeler pots.
