    Default Kayak Depth Finders

Santa brought us a Kayak for christmas and we are going to outfit it for fishing. We are going to add rod holders and were wondering if this any good depth finders we could add. Talked with someone at the marine store and they said some transducers could not get a signal through the polymers they use to make kayaks. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Fish00.

Go to kayakfishingstuff.com and prepare for the fire hose of info you'll find

I'm pretty sure she'll set some of my stuff on fire in the driveway, but sometimes you gotta nut up and be a man.

With a well placed transducer and a dab of Goop, you should have no problem receiving a signal through the hull. Just make sure there are no air bubbles between the transducer and the hull.

Make sure the glue is TOTALLY dry before moving the yak though, or it will come right off.

never heard of anyone having problems with a transducer because of the kayak materials. application problems, bubbles or not cured enough. some guys use goop, lexel, 5 minute bond, silicone, even vaseline.

I used marine goop after failing 2 times with silicone. Very important to get all bubbles out. Hold marine goop tip against bottom of kayak and make a pool of goop. Don't lift the tip up out of the pool of goop and you should be fine. Set transducer in pool and rock from side to side and wedge in place for 24 hrs. Enjoy the new toy. I was too chicken to try the epoxy.......................

BASS PRO has the Cuda168 for $79.00 right now . It will give you great readings ,but not on temp. A 12v battery from Batteries Plus for around $25.00 and you'll be on your way.

I've used my battery all spring, summer, fall on 1 overnight charge!!!

The Cuda 168 works well... But, if you're paddling with someone with the same type unit, you will get feedback if within about 25 feet of them. Darren (Carp) and I have had this problem. Then the unit will read 390 feet. It really works great otherwise. I have one on one of my small water yaks.

    Happy New Year!!!
