It was Al Pacino stars in a Sidney Lumet 1975 thriller masterpiece - “Dog Day Afternoon” (I know I’m dating myself). Today we got out into the deep Atlantic Ocean with a fair sea condition opportunity. This is our 2nd extreme long range deep drop wreck fishing trip of the 2007 campaign. We were joined by 11 intrepid anglers, Capt. Mark “The Tilefish Slayer” Wray, and 1st Mate T.J. Reiber.
We fished four wrecks and 5 Blueline Tilefish spots. It was a fair bite as we landed 227 keeper corpulent Black Sea Bass (not counting a multitude of landed half BSB’s which were so rudely bitten off by Dog Sharks and Bluefish), 77 small and medium Blueline Tilefish, and 73 slim Runner Bluefish. We also released a ton of Dawg Sharks.
We had a final tally of 3 VA Weight Citation BSB’s:
Mr. Kenneth L. Garthe (“Party On Garth”) of VA Beach - 5 pounds 4 oz’s
Mr. G. Wade Tyler of Glen Allen, VA - 5 pounds 2 oz’s
Capt. Mark Wray of VA Beach, VA - 5 pounds even
