I can only help you to tell you that a friend of mine has Johnson "around" that same year and he has hated it from day one. He did purchase it used. It was not on a Wahoo. If you want more info, I will try to contact him. If my memory serves me correctly, (no Nati Light tonight) he should still be located in Carolina and I will see what I can do to contact him?

    Itch-
I had a 200hp Johnson on my old boat and never had any problems with it. It was a 2000 though so it was a little newer. It sure would smoke when it first started, but I was told that if it aint smoking, somethings wrong.

I bought a boat last spring with a 98 200HP johnson and I did alot of checking on these engines before I made the purchase. Most of all the info I heard about them is that as long as they have gas, oil, and they are smoking they will run forever. After running the boat all year, they are thirsty and smoke a little more than other manufacturers, but I will take that trade off for the reliablility. Also be warned, there is nothing unusual for them to smoke like a forest fire for the first few minutes if the engine has been sitting for any amount of time. I would not want you to get them to take you for a test ride and when they start it up you go running for the fire extinguisher.

I fish on Brad F's boat and she has never let us down or failed to start (knocking on wood). Trolling down wind can be a little smokey sometimes but ahh how I love the smell of 2-stroke in the morning

Boat itch-- I've got a pair of '94 Johnson Oceanrunners 200 hp on my boat and like the guys said they smoke and gobble gas, but they're practically bulletproof and have more torque than newer four-strokes. By the way, is that Wahoo 26 located in Deltaville? If so it probably is the one that was restored approx. 2001 and was for sale when I bought my boat there at that time. I checked it over then. Shoot me a pm if you want my opinion.
