    Default OT - Islamorada Guides?

    Hello gang,

Ellen and I will be in Islamorada 4/14-4/21, and I'm wanting to go fishing (imagine that). Does anyone have a guide they'd recommend for Tarpon/Shark?

Also, is it worth the hassle to bring the cast net, rods/reels, tackle (I know, there's a limit to what you can take on a plane...LOL), for the possibility of renting a boat/wade/bridge fishing?

I know there's a "Keys Board" now, but thought it'd get more traction here.

    Thanks folks.

Second on Vic Gaspeny.....a class act. I have fished with him in Islamorada, and he is welcome on my boat when he is in VB vactioning during the summer. Great person....he runs out of Bud'n Mary's.

You may want to seriously consider a swordfish trip.....

Try Mark Gilman, out of the marina at Worldwide Sportsman. A great guy, that put me ono two 100+ Tarpon. My sense is a lot of guides shy awy from sharks, they want to put you on the glamor species. Whoever you get, make it clear upfront you want go sharking. I love catching sharks, and Mark has no problem finding a few nice lemons and blacktips.

Make sure you check with your airline on the length of your rod case. It was much shorter than I expected. I bought a case then found out that max length was approx 72". I could not take the 7' rods I wanted to. They charge for oversize but it is still not very long.

Kelly - Yeah man, that's me. Where's yours?

Capt. Ahab - I'll meet you at the Tiki Bar for a cold one! Also, any interest in splitting a charter? Seems I'm the only one in my group that eaten up with it.
